Things get greener at Ramsgate Port

Last week the green roof, one of the environmental features of the building, was installed at our Operations and Maintenance Base which is being built at the port.   The roof is made up of plants that should establish themselves well in the local environment and be able to cope with the coastal exposure.  As well as its ecological value the roof will also provide good level of insulation for the building.  The roof incorporates an irrigation system which will monitor the weather and ensure the roof is watered when needed.

The new base has been designed with the environment in mind.  Alongside the green roof the building has been designed to maximise the available natural light and will generate some of its own energy through the installation of a combined heat and power (CHP) unit.
