Two Thanet educational organisations have started the year with a financial boost thanks to grants from London Array.
The offshore wind farm donated a combined £5,000 to Discovery Planet CIC and Foreland Fields Charity.
Discovery Planet is a Ramsgate-based award-winning social enterprise that works with the University of Kent and other national science and technology institutions to deliver science-related educational activities to the community. The donation from London Array will be used to kit out new premises for hosting public events.
Forelands Field School, which is supported by its namesake charity, helps children and young people in Thanet and East Kent with profound, severe and complex needs. The funding will go towards its Field of Dreams project, which aims to create a specialist disability community sport and leisure hub.
Bob Smith, General Manager at London Array, said: “As a company that is at the forefront of innovation in offshore renewable energy, we are very aware of the importance of education.
“The grant to Discovery Planet builds on an existing relationship which has seen us take part in their community STEM activity days, while our donation to Forelands Field will help the school further enhance the support it offers to youngsters with complex needs.”
