Work to support vulnerable mothers and their newly-born babies has been given a helping hand by London Array.
The offshore wind farm has donated £1,000 to Mama to Mama, which is Thanet’s only baby bank.
The Margate-based charity provides essential new-born baby items to vulnerable pregnant women using good quality donated items. The people they support are referred by organisations and individuals such as midwives, social services and women’s refuges.
Jayne Furniss, CEO & Founder of Mama to Mama, said: “This £1,000 donation is very welcome and will help us to meet some of the increasing demand we are seeing from vulnerable women in Thanet.
“Our vision is that every new mother and baby have the best start possible – and this grant will take us a step closer to achieving that. Thank you, London Array.”
The care packages the charity supplies provide all the items a new parent would need for their baby. Among other things, they include clothing, blankets, a pram, soft toy, baby carrier, baby bath, Moses basket, cot, changing mat, hygiene packages, high chair, breast pump and bottles.
James Vause, General Manager of London Array, said: “Mama to Mama and their team of volunteers do a fantastic job helping some of Thanet’s most vulnerable women and their new-born babies. They also do a great job diverting clothing and equipment from landfill by re-gifting to families in need. We are pleased to support them with this donation.”
