Gearing up for foundation installation

In early March the first foundations will be installed at London Array.  Manufacture of the monopiles and transition pieces (TPs) started last year.

Due to the varying sea conditions and water depths  TPs for the project will weigh between 100 and 400 tonnes and will be up to 43m tall.

The photo shows a TP for London Array whcih is 23.25m tall and weighs around 175 tonnes.   The TP will be up-ended and a concrete platform installed as well as other secondary steelwork  before it is ready for shipment to the site.
